Where’s the Joy? Solo, but not Alone

October 30

The color is popping in Tennessee. It looks like it will be a great year for color, with vibrant reds, oranges and yellows. I took a ride along the Foothills Parkway. Norm would have loved the colors this year.

I read an article about widows…I’m on that algorithm for Facebook now. It said that one of the most difficult challenges for widows is the loss of couples as friends. I will admit, sometimes it is awkward being with a couple. It’s bittersweet to be out with a couple, glad for them, but missing Norm. He could tell a story and get everyone laughing…I’m more quiet.

If you are part of a couple, take the time to invite the widow in your life out to dinner, or to an event. She may turn you down, but the offer will mean more than you know.

I am grateful for the couples in my life who continue to ask: Donna & Dan, Carol & Mark, Edna & Jim, Deb & Jamie, Darlene & Don, Elma & Wes, Sally & Chas, Janice & Bruce, Joyce & John, and my family, Katy & Dennis, Kim & Jason, Deb & Jim, and Julie & Brian. Thank you for caring enough to ask, even though it may be awkward.

I am thankful for the people who have stayed in my life, friends and family make it bearable.

I pray for the unction to do what needs to be done. I’m sorting, and sometimes…often, choose to zone out with social media instead.

I rejoice in the Lord who gives me hope. I miss Norm, but I will see him again. He is walking in the garden with the Lord, and I am still walking here, but one day…

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.
For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
